EFLA played a key role in a significant milestone for the aquaculture company Laxey, based in Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland. This week, Laxey successfully delivered its first batch of post-smolt to a partner company, marking the beginning of a new recurring revenue stream and a significant step in the company’s dual-income strategy.

Safety and Efficiency at the Forefront

EFLA was responsible for the design of the berthing infrastructure used during the delivery operation. The design included the development of a specialized mooring system that ensured the well-boat remained securely in place throughout the pumping process. The project was carried out in close collaboration with Ísfell and the Norwegian consultancy Dr Techn. Olav Olsen AS.

The berthing solution and mooring system were designed with a strong emphasis on safety and operational efficiency, playing a critical role in ensuring the transfer was executed smoothly and without incident.

A New Chapter for Laxey

The delivery marks the launch of Laxey’s dual revenue model, in which the company will not only produce market-size salmon for human consumption but also raise and sell high-quality post-smolt to other aquaculture producers. This approach provides greater operational flexibility and enables earlier revenue generation.

The transfer was conducted directly from Laxey’s post-smolt facility into the well-boat Ronja Tind following months of design and preparation. Laxey’s location in Vestmannaeyjar offers natural shelter and direct access to sailing routes, making it ideal for both domestic and export-oriented deliveries.

By supplying robust post-smolt to other producers, Laxey contributes to improved biological outcomes across the aquaculture value chain, reducing time in sea-based systems and enhancing predictability and security for its partners.
