The project's objective

Due to a new residential area in the vicinity of Hafnarfjörður harbour, EFLA  measured and mapped the noise from the harbour activity. A new tool was also created, that can be used when new residential buildings are designed in the vicinity of a harbour.

Constant noise measurements were conducted with a sound level meter in three places. The noise was measured for three weeks in total. With the information obtained, a noise map was conducted by using sound propagation calculation software, SoundPLAN. Afterwards, a future condition was estimated, where the planning information for the residential area was taken into account along with information about the harbour's activity.
