The project's objective
Nattland school started out as a rehabilitation project, but the building that was supposed to be rehabilitated was deemed to be too damaged for further use. The project changed it's course from that point on and it was decided that a new building should be constructed along with a small portion of the existing building that could be rehabilitated. The total size of the building project is 8.300 m2 for the new building and 900 m2 for the rehabilitated one.
The final size of the project is 11.500 m2, which includes temporary workstations that are going to be permanent. The areas are distinctively divided, both inside the building and outside in the play zones.
Nattland school accommodates children in the Bergen area that are deaf or have a hard time hearing. The school has specially designed classrooms with e.g. vibrating floors that help these students learn.
Environmental issues
Nattland's new school building is a "passive house", which is a building designed to be energy efficient and have a reduced ecological footprint.
