The project's objective
All overburden below the structure was removed and replaced with compacted gravel which the structure was founded on. The swimming pools, hot tubs, technical areas and other areas below grade were formed with cast in place concrete. The main objective of the design was to prevent the need for expansion joints and high percentage of reinforcement was provided to prevent cracking.
The exterior walls of the sports hall were constructed with steel frames and pre-cast elements which were welded to the steel frames. Most other walls were cast in place.
The floors were mostly cast in place except the floor slab on top of the basement gym which used hollow core concrete elements.
Most of the roof was formed with Let-tak elements which were seated on steel angles attached to the concrete walls.
Lighting design and CCTV
Special effort was put into the design of lighting and security systems (CCTV) as the facilities are greatly popular with both very young visitors and the elderly. EFLA also designed, programmed and commisioned the Building Management system for the control of ventilation and heating and all pool controls (heating and cleaning system).
EFLA designed all electrical systems, 400V system, fire alarm system, CCTV monitoring system, burglar alarm system and all lighting design, including security lighting.
In the acoustical design, calculations were made for the reverberation time in relevant rooms, including the sports hall and the locker rooms.
