Þeistareykjavirkjun - Official startup of Landsvirkjun's new geothermal power plant

The official startup of the first unit of the 2x45 MW power plant was on November 17th while the second unit is scheduled to go online in April 2018.

    Þórdís Gylfadóttir, Minister of tourism, industry and innovation, connected officially Þeistareykjavirkjun to Landsnet‘s power grid.
The power plant will improve the electricity supply for the northeastern part of Iceland and provide electricity to PCC Bakki Silicon.

EFLA‘s role

EFLA Consulting Engineers was responsible of supervising the construction of the powerhouse and laying of pipes for steam supply systems. EFLA has also been in the role of the resident engineer for Landsvirkjun for some time now.

EFLA is working for ABB Denmark on the plant's DCS system and on the steam supply programming and commissioning. EFLA is also working for the German company, Balcke-Dürr to provide control system services for plants Cold End and for Fuji Electric in Japan on integration of the plant's turbine and generator into the control system.
