New major vessel port in Nuuk

EFLA is designing a new major vessel port in Qeqertat in Nuuk, Greenland as a turnkey project with Danish contractor Per Aarsleff for Sikuki A/S. The total project involves enlarging the harbour and harbour area in Nuuk and constructing facilities in the harbour area: An office building, workshop, warehouse and cold and freezing storages. The harbour area will cover 50,000 m2, and the total area of buildings will be 4,700 m2.

EFLA is in charge of designing the buildings, i.e. design control, load-bearing structures, acoustics, fire protection design, installations and ventilation, while Rambøll DK is in charge of designing the harbour area, enlarging and designing the site. The total investment for the project is estimated at ISK 8bn.

The project entails blasting 300,000 m3 of materials in the harbour area, enlarging the wharf and dredging the harbour.

Design work on the project commenced in early 2015. Construction work began in mid-2015 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
