EFLA Consulting Engineers participated in a symposium on mitigation measures against snow avalanches and other rapid gravity mass flows. The conference took place in Siglufjörður, small community in North Iceland, from 3rd to 5th of April.

The symposium objective is to bring together engineers, architects, scientists and other professionals from the authorities to discuss the development of new solutions and mitigation measures against snow avalanches and other rapid gravity mass flows.

About the Engineer

Jón Skúli Indriðason, geotechnical engineering, at EFLA has over 20 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering, including the engineering design of defences against avalanches and rock falls. He gave two presentations at the symposium, discussing the experience in Iceland of construction of avalanche defenses using different building methods.

EFLA has worked on several projects in the field of avalanche protection, including: supervision of the construction of avalanche defences in Flateyri and Siglufjörður and tender design of snow barriers in Ísafjörður, Bolungarvik, Patreksfjörður and Neskaupstaður.
