Construction work has started for an additional 20.000 square meters at Leif Eiríksson Air Terminal at Keflavík Airport. EFLA Consulting Engineers has been part of the design management team and has taken on various engineering consultancy for the extension.
Expanding and strengthening
The building is estimated to be ready for use in 2024, and the estimated total cost of the project is ISK 20.8 billion. The expansion will strengthen the airport's international competitiveness, improve retail areas and handle baggage. As a result, the airport's capacity will increase significantly, and the project is an essential step in the airport's development plan and a part of strengthening customer service. The project is also a welcome injection of funds into the Icelandic economy and not least in the Suðurnes region.
