In April 2018, The Blue Lagoon Iceland opened its impressive hotel and spa. The place has received noteworthy recognition and received numerous awards for architecture, design and service. EFLA has collaborated with The Blue Lagoon for a long time and was responsible for the engineering design at the hotel and spa.
Since The Retreat at Blue Lagoon opened in April 2018 it has been acknowledged with fourteen awards. That includes awards for best luxury hotel, concrete design, interior design and architecture.
Winner of best luxury hotel
In June The Retreat at Blue Lagoon was selected as the winner of best luxury hotel at the 15th Hospitality Design awards, as well as being a finalist for the best wellness project. There were more than 1000 entries submitted in each category and 122 made it to the finalists.
Red Dot Design Awards | Best of the Best
Recently, The Retreat at Blue Lagoon received the Red Dot Design Award as well as being awarded the Best of the Best for its interior design and architecture.
Nomination | Dezeen awards
This month it was announced that The Retreat made it to the longlist for the Dezeen Award in Hospitality Architecture, Hotel and Short Stay Interior and Leisure and Wellness Interior. Dezeen magazine is one of the most popular and recognized architectural and design magazine in the world and has won numerous awards for journalism and publishing. The Dezeen awards winners will be announced in November.
EFLA's engineering design
It's been such a rewarding experience working with the Blue Lagoon and all the talented partners that contributed to this project. We would like to thank this talented team of collaborators; The Retrat at Blue Lagoon, Basalt architects, Verkfræðistofa Suðurnesja, Jáverk, Liska and Design Group Italia and congratulate them for the outcome that truly has been remarkable.
EFLA's role in the project consisted of the engineering design for the hotel and spa. That included structural design, ventilation and pipe design, fire and safety design, acoustic design, building physics design and facade design. See also the project description.
