The Eyjafjallajökull
eruption:
A new phase

Shortly after the lava eruption at the low flank of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano stopped, another phase of the unrest started.

A powerful ash and pumice eruption broke out in the glaciated summit crater of the volcano.

The international flight disruption made headlines all over the world.

This time a larger area than during the first phase had to be evacuated but not permanently.

The Civil Protection Department plans, that EFLA participated in making, functioned well.

The ash fall south and east of the volcano has caused damage and problems for the farming districts closest to the volcano.
