EFLA is a leading consultant in Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) in Iceland as well as in the calculation of both ecological and carbon footprints for products or services.


A life cycle assessment is used to assess the environmental impact of a product, process or service from cradle to grave. The goal of an LCA is to identify which phases of the life cycle have the largest impact on the environment and how the design or production techniques can be improved in order to minimize these impacts. The results can also be used to compare the environmental impacts of similar products and services. Among LCA results is the carbon footprint, a measure on the total amount of greenhouse gases emitted as a result of human activities, causing climate change and global warming.

Communication through labelling and EPDs

LCA results provide numerical data on material use and environmental impacts that can be used for various purposes; product or system development, for communication of the environmental performance (Ecolabel, Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), Carbon Footprint, Ecological Footprint) or for a company‘s or organization‘s environmental management system.
